REVIEW: The Color Run

photo-15Many people run regularly to stay in shape, or for fun. Whatever the reason may be, running definitely brings people together.  In one of my first running experiences, I did the Color Run with 3 other people here at South High: Kyle Cady, Brooke Herbert, and Jackson Martinez.

The Color Run is known as the ‘Happiest 5K in the planet’ and is a unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality. Now the single largest event series in the United States, The Color Run has become very popular, and has hosted more than 170 events in 30+ countries in 2013. The Color Run sign up includes a white color run t-shirt, a kaleidoscope bag, a headband, a color packet, a wristband and a few tattoos.

The idea is to wear to all white so that by the end of it the color is clearly visible. During the race, there are 4 colors that you run through: pink, purple, blue and yellow. At the finish, there is confetti pieces thrown at you for the start of the celebration. After running the Color Run, you get a free packet of color to have fun with! The actual run doesn’t last very long because it is a short run, 3 miles give or take.

Afterwards, there are many fun activities that are available for everyone to participate in. There is a concert that goes on after the run where everyone is dancing and having a good time. At the concert, color is also thrown at you to get you even more colorful. There is also a kaleidoscope mirror that you can put your head into which allows your face to reflect on the inside. It basically makes your face appear all over the tube, which is a pretty cool thing to see. During the entire event professional pictures are being taking that you can choose to buy after the event. There is also a photo booth area that is available for groups and people to take photos in front of. If you choose to only run the race, you may see only a few splashes of color on you.

I suggest when you go to get as colorful as you can get to get the full experience! The Color Run will be in Wisconsin a few more times in the upcoming months. On July 6th, they will be in Milwaukee, October 5th in Green Bay, La Crosse on September 13th, and Racine on May 24th. I suggest to all of you to try and make time to go and experience one for yourself, like they say.. the Happiest 5K on the planet!
